Sirius VPN — review, status in Russia, how to connect
Sirius VPN is a Russian VPN service with an unusual circumvention technique: in case cross-border internet is shut down, the project has a backup channel via StarLink satellite connectivity. It costs 300₽ per month, works on WireGuard and its own obfuscated protocols, and has separate servers for calls in Telegram/WhatsApp and for bypassing so-called “allowlists.”

What is Sirius VPN
Sirius VPN appeared on the Russian market in 2024 with two features that are unusual for VPN services. The first is “rabbit hole technology”: in case of a complete shutdown of cross-border internet (which Roskomnadzor, RKN, and Mintsifry (Минцифры) model during regular drills), the service has a backup satellite channel via StarLink. This means that even if backbone operators disable BGP routes “to the outside world,” Sirius will continue to work.
The second feature is servers for specific tasks. For most VPNs, a server is “universal”: the same IP pool is used for YouTube, calls, and the general web. Sirius VPN has a separate server for calls in Telegram and WhatsApp (this is critical because since 2025 RKN has been slowing messenger voice traffic at the DPI level), and a separate server for bypassing “allowlists” — a mode in which an operator only allows a pre-approved list of domains.
The subscription is set up through the Telegram bot @siriusvpnbot. After payment, the bot provides a WireGuard config or an app link. The price is 300₽ per month, which is below the market average (most VPN services with blocking circumvention cost 400-700₽).
Pros and cons of Sirius VPN
- + Backup channel via StarLink — the only solution on the market for a blackout scenario
- + Specialized servers for calls in messengers
- + Bypassing “allowlists” — a separate server with current protocols
- + Below-market price (300₽ versus 450-600₽ for comparable services)
- + Connection through a Telegram bot without email registration
- — The service is young (since 2024) — a short track record under sanctions
- — No native app — a third-party WireGuard or AmneziaWG client is required
- — No stated device limit — the official terms are vague
- — Russian team — a potential risk of pressure through jurisdiction
Features and protocols
Sirius VPN works on two main protocols:
- WireGuard — a standard modern protocol, fast, but detectable by the DPI system of TSPU and regularly blocked in Russia. Suitable for everyday use when the operator is not actively blocking the protocol.
- AmneziaWG (modified WireGuard) — an obfuscated variant that masks packet headers as ordinary HTTPS traffic. Works where regular WireGuard is blocked.
In addition, Sirius has a separate “server for calls” — this is a configuration with short keep-alive intervals and special routing for UDP traffic so that call packets (which use different ports than the web) pass through the channel without being cut off.
How to connect Sirius VPN
- Open Telegram, find the bot
@siriusvpnbot, or use the direct link. - In the bot menu, choose a plan (different periods are available — from monthly to annual). You can pay with a Russian bank card or Telegram Stars.
- After payment, the bot will provide a QR code and a text WireGuard config. It will also send a link for AmneziaWG (recommended if your operator blocks regular WireGuard).
- Install the official WireGuard app (App Store / Google Play / Windows / Mac / Linux) or AmneziaVPN for obfuscated mode.
- Import the config from the QR code (inside the app — “Add Tunnel” → “Scan QR”) or paste the text config. Enable the tunnel.
If a specific server does not work on your operator (see the live table above), request a config for another location in the bot — Sirius has several European and Asian nodes.
